Front fuel tank mounts

I fabricated front fuel tank mounts.

My father-in-law was a research chemist, and I inherited his cache of lab supplies. He had a pair rubber stoppers that perfectly fit the mounting receptacles on the CFMoto Pango 125 tank. I bored them out for countersunk mounting bolts.

I just needed to fabricate a pair of simple mounting plates between the tank and the existing tank mounting holes on the frame. I made them out of 1/8” aluminum, originally intending them to be proof-of-concept templates for something thicker or made from steel. But now that they’re installed, I think they’re plenty strong enough.

The mounting holes in the frame and the mounts on the tank are both angled inward about 8–9 degrees, so they matched up well. However, the adapter plate ended up situated out-of-plane on multiple axes. The through-bolt I used to positively locate them wasn’t going to align. Fortunately, that was a non-issue thanks to a few pairs of spherical washers on either side of the plates.

I will eventually paint the brackets to match the frame so they are not so obvious.

I now need to start working on the rear tank mount. Hopefully that will go just as smoothly.
