I bought a knockoff Hyde “M-bar” bend handlebar about six years go, but could never use it because the center section is too narrow to fit the handlebar clamps of nearly any modern motorcycle. The obvious solution would be a conversion plate that mounts to the existing top clamp with holes to mount a set of non-integral handlebar clamps closer together. In searching for a set of clamps, I found a narrow, bridged handlebar mount used on many Yamaha ATVs. Sure enough, it works perfectly with these bars. I mocked up a mounting plate using a scrap piece of alloy. This particular piece is too thin at only 3/16″ thick, but I had it on hand and it allows me to see how the bars would look.

The plate itself isn’t terribly attractive, but the bars—sort of in-between a clubman handlebar and a flat drag bar—look very nice. In order to keep the bike simple and avoid the added hassle and expense of the extra lights, fenders, wiring and switchgear a street bike would have, I am leaning toward the appearance of a lightweight clubman race bike, and the M-bar suits this concept to a tee.
