Looking at the B&W mock-up photo I posted recently, that big, long rear cowl behind the seat perfectly fits the early-70s/early-’80s mashup I see this as. Buuuuut — all that mass to the rear looks a bit awkward. It needs a small quarter fairing up front to balance it.

I definitely want something more distinctive and attractive one of those generic Emgo/Lockhart-Phillips ABS plastic cafe fairings, which would look odd with the higher bars anyway. I want to stick with the 7″ round LED headlight I have, so that rules out many that I would otherwise like, such as the GPz305 and 550 fairings, CB1100F, or even a VF400F. I also want to avoid headlight fairings that are distinctive enough to be instantly identifiable with a particular bike, such as the GS1000S or 550 Seca. A K75C fairings could be cool, but they go for silly prices. That leaves something along the lines of a Z1-R, GS450S or BMW R65 sport fairing.

Ideally, in a perfect world, I would be able to find a Kawasaki Gran Sport fairing. This was a universal fit quarter fairing sold through their accessory catalog for the KZ550A, prior to the introduction of the GPz550 version. It is similar to the Z1-R, but without the model-specific mounting points. It’s not quite the same shape, having more angle to windshield and larger scallops cut out of the sides. Unfortunately, they are nearly unobtainable.

Even though it would probably be too big for the bike, one of my favorite fairings is the Brealey Smith Triumph Executive “cockpit” fairing. Unfortunately, they made about two dozen of them, and they are now priced like jewelry.

I have added all this information simply to give you (and myself) a clearer idea of what I think will work. Anybody who has a lead on something similar that’s not too expensive, I’d appreciate knowing about it.
